Using a community-driven process, Kounkuey Design Initiative (KDI) has been working with the communities in the Kibera settlement of Nairobi (Kenya), to design and build Productive Public Spaces that are sustainable and economic self-sufficient sites. Since 2006, KDI has been constructing playgrounds, gardens, offices, micro-enterprises and gathering houses where residents meet, work and interact.
