Bicycle Innovation Lab is the first cultural centre in Denmark for and about cycling, born with the objective of rising the awareness of the Danish cycling culture. Since its opening last November it has been organizing speeches, lectures, events, guided tours and exhibitions, focusing on the themes of bike and bicycle traffic. Moreover it has a well-stocked bicycle library, where people can borrow new experimental types of bikes and can create their own prototypes during specific workshops held by experts.

This is not a museum. Mobile devices lurking is the new exhibition of ACVic Centre d’Arts Contemporànies in Vic (Spain) from 15th October until 15th January 2011. The exhibition presents a large informative archive of interesting case studies of mobile devices, conceived as potential elements for an experimental and alternative conception of “museum”. It also showcases some of the original artifacts carried out by international artists and collectives, as A77, raumlaborberlin, Todo por la Praxis within Ceci n’est pas une voiture project.
Copenhagen is one of the most bike-friendly cities in the world. On 17th September in the Carlsberg area, there were the traditional Danish Cargo Bike Championships. Races, a bit of competitiveness and fun for the whole family.

On Saturday October 1st from midnight till 5:30 a.m. Velonotte will transform New York into an open-air museum accessed by bicycle, with an audio guide dwelling in the urban and cultural history of the City, with contributions from architects and cultural historians.
From September 9th through October 17th the gallery Momenta Art in New York (USA) hosts Mobility, an exhibition of vending carts created by artists, using public spaces for personal experiences in opposition to mass consumerism. They’re projects that celebrate recycling, sustainability and creativity within immigrant communities. The works will be taken out into the neighbourhoods, surrounding the gallery and manned by the artists during scheduled performance times.

The project is born to enhance the visibility of underground culture in cities, both offnline and online, and to create a worldwide network of cultural professionals. It’s an open platform where to discover and exchange information about unconventional roots, artistic treasures, new cultural points hidden in the cities, that no average travel agency will ever tell. Paddling Home by Kacey Wong is a 4 feet x 4 feet house floating on the sea, looking like a typical residential apartment block equipped with a modular bed and even the air conditionating unit. The project presented in 2009 suggests a compact and free way of living, as an alternative to the expensive loans people must normally pay off to buy tiny flats in Hong Kong.
What would Los Angeles be like with fewer cars? This is the theme of Rethink LA: Perspectives on a Future City, an exhibition opening in August, and a competition to imagine the city when it has moved beyond cars. Until 31 July you can submit an image of a future L.A. street with no cars and a little description. All the submissions will be projected at the A+D Museum on August 11 during the Moving Beyond Cars party, which will challenge all attendees to get to the event without using a car. The winner will be announced at the event.
The Bicycle Library is a new project that offers people the chance to borrow bicycles instead of books. The headquarter is a double-decker bus in London (UK) where there’s a variety of bicycles, each designed to adapt to all urban conditions. You can ask suggestions to the “Librarian”, test the bike for a few days and even buy it directly from the manufacturer.
Take it to the streets.
Cities hide patterns of invisible paths along the streets and through the buildings, traced by the daily movements of people driven by their habits and rituals. The project rePLACE seeks to tell the cities of Beirut, Berlin and Beijing by documenting these interactions between urban environment and its inhabitants. Anyone located in these cities can partecipate by mapping a personal frequent route with images, sounds or memories or by discovering someone else’s everyday path.
4H is a four person unicycle created by artist Gavin Turk and industrial designer Ben Wilson for the upcoming Bicycle wheel event in London (UK).
